Dr. Fiona Perrott-Humphrey –BA (Natal) MBA (Wits) DBL (UNISA)

Born in Egoli, South Africa “the City of Gold”, Dr Fiona Perrott-Humphrey spent six years in financial journalism and academia in South Africa before moving to the UK in 1986. For the next 17 years Fiona was consistently rated as one of the top investment analysts in mining for major financial institutions in the City of London, ending up as Head of European Mining Research for SSMB, part of Citigroup. In 2003, Fiona set up her own consultancy to continue her favourite aspects of a mining analyst’s job. In 2006 she formed AIM Mining Research and together with ex AngloGoldAshanti C.O.O. David Hodgson and geologists Gordon Wylie, Peter Mellowship and Jan-Marten Huizenga, has published “Understanding Junior Miners”. The book aims to help investors, fund managers and AIM mining companies understand the specialist geological and mining issues facing early stage juniors in order to interrogate and analyse them. She continues her role as adviser to Chairmen, Non exec’s and CEO’s of mining companies particularly in relation to investor perceptions and strategy. Fiona was on the board of Dominion Diamonds, with operations in northern Canada, for two years until December 2015. She fits in her consulting work, including two days a week with NM Rothschild, around hiking, gardening and travel.

David Hodgson –BSc Civil (Wits) – BSc Mining (London), ARSM – BComm (uNISA) – AMP (Harvard)
Born on a South African diamond mine and nicknamed ‘Pebbles’, David Hodgson was a DeBeers scholarship holder for six years. His ‘reward’ was to work at oranjemund in Namibia on beach and marine diamond mining, and in 1982 commissioned Jwaneng mine in Botswana. David then transferred back to gold and by 2000 was responsible for all Anglogold South African mines From 2001 until retirement in 2005, David was Executive Director of AnglogoldAshanti and the Chief operating officer responsible for 22 mines in 11 countries on 4 continents, producing 6 million oz. of gold annually from a vast range of orebody types and mining methods. These days, when David isn’t battling to regain a single figure handicap or busying himself as a non-executive, he can be found listening to music and relaxing with his wife and three daughters at his beach house ‘on the best bay of the world’.

Since retirement David has been a non-executive director of Moto gold Mines, uranium one, goliath gold and Auryx gold. He is currently a director of African Barrick gold and Montero Mining.

Jan-Marten Huizenga –MSc Structural geology and PhD geology (Amsterdam), MSc Environmental Management (Johannesburg)

Born in the Netherlands, Jan-Marten Huizenga has spent most of his life at university. He was a geology student for 11 years in Amsterdam before moving to South Africa to complete an MSc. He is now a professor of geochemistry at North-West university in SA. Apart from teaching numerous courses and training post-graduate students at the university, he undertakes research on the formation of ore deposits (gold and diamond) and on the environmental impact of mining in South Africa. Jan-Marten enjoys reading history and cycling.
Peter Mellowship –BSc geology (Leicester) – MSc Mining geology (Camborne School of Mines)
Originally from the mining valleys of Wales, geologist Peter Mellowship has been involved in the mineral exploration and mining industries for over 30 years. He has worked on base metal, iron ore, gold and for the last 20 years on PGE deposits, finally as Consulting geologist for Implats. He was the platinum industry representative on the formulation of the SAMREC Code and designated Competent Person for Implats. Peter now lives in Hermanus, Western Cape, where he tries to devote more time to his family, fly fishing, wine tasting and whale watching… not necessarily in that order – as well as working as an independent consultant in the PGE industry.

Gordon Wylie –BSc (Hons) Geology (Glasgow), grad Dip Mining Engineering(WITS), Management Diploma (uNISA)

34 years’ experience including from 1998-2005 as Anglogold-Ashanti’s global Exploration Manager. Gordon was instrumental in developing the company’s “New frontiers Strategy”, Anglogold-Ashanti’s move into highly prospective but poorly prospected higher risk regions such as DRC, Colombia, China and Laos. Ex director of; Trans-Siberian Gold (AIM), OXUS GOLD (AIM) and Continental gold (TSx). Currently Chairman and Director of Lydian International (TSX), Director of Avocet (LSE), Central Asian Gold (NASDAQ QMX Nordic Exchange) and LLave de Oro (private company with assets in Colombia).
